Here's our round-up of this week's must-read posts.
This week in our round-up of must-read posts: Building multifamily housing is a fickle business -- why? Patrick McAnaney explains. Change is really hard, but that's not enough reason not to do it: "it," in this case, being "building more housing in Montgomery County." 71% (!) of Northern Virginia's developable land is limited to single-family homes. Four county fairs in the Washington region are transit-accessible -- including one happening this weeked! And if you're running for an ANC seat in DC, make sure to submit your GGWash questionnaires by the Sunday deadline.
P.S. Are you dreaming of cooler days? We are too -- so we opened ticket sales for the Fall Mixer extra-early! Join us on September 25 at Metrobar for the biggest pro-transit, pro-housing party around. Tickets and details >>
P.P.S. Can you spare 10 minutes for the future of transit? Take the DMVMoves survey to make sure your views are heard in the regional transit planning process currently underway, led by WMATA and COG. Responses are due Sunday, August 11. Take the survey >>

Northern Virginia is now included in the National Zoning Atlas, a decentralized effort to catalog zoning restrictions across the tens of thousands of jurisdictions that regulate land use. The atlas reveals one factor behind the region’s high housing costs: 71% of our developable land is restricted to exclusively detached single family houses rather than more affordable types of homes.

Although fairs began as exhibitions of rural life, they’re just as enjoyable for city dwellers. Four county fairs in Greater Washington are easily accessible by transit, starting this weekend!
