When Congress returns on September 9th, they’ll be weeks away from another government funding deadline. Congress holds the power of the purse. With President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris in the White House, spending bills are conservatives’ best opportunity to influence the federal government’s agenda. Budgets reveal priorities and shape outcomes.

Here is what you need to know:

State of Play

Congress should fund the government using a series of 12 appropriation bills, all of which must originate in the House of Representatives. Each of these bills should be passed individually, but are often combined into one massive spending bill called an omnibus.

However , Congress has not yet passed all the appropriations bills and they likely won’t have the time they need to do so before funding expires on October 1st.

To keep the government running until Americans can choose a new president, Congress should pass a Continuing Resolution (CR) to extend government funding. Passing a CR will ensure there’s no increase in spending— and eliminate the threat of another bloated omnibus bill.

Lawmakers should also take the opportunity to attach the SAVE Act to this CR so that they can add greater election integrity and close loopholes that allow non-citizens to vote in federal elections.

The SAVE Act, introduced by Representative Chip Roy (R-Texas), would amend the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to require states to verify proof of citizenship before allowing individuals to register to vote in federal elections.

While voting as a non-citizen is universally illegal, enforcement mechanisms are not universally implemented. Many states have already done great work to strengthen election operations and have restored integrity for voters casting their ballots, but interpretations of the NVRA have been exploited to prevent states from requiring proof of citizenship.

The SAVE Act would end voting loopholes to add greater confidence in the outcome of our elections.

What You Need to Know about Inflation and Spending

When Congress does decide to fund the government for Fiscal Year 2025, they should deliver the spending cuts that Americans have demanded for years—instead of passing another budget that will drive inflation even higher.

As you know, inflation under the Biden-Harris administration has been painful. Food prices have increased by 30%, medium home prices have risen more than 27%, and the average Medicaid deductible has increased 35%.

Inflation is a consequence of government spending. When the government spends and pumps the economy with too much money too quickly, it devalues the dollars in your pocket because too many dollars are chasing too few goods.

Between March 2020 and December 2022, the federal government spent a staggering $7.5 trillion. One of the worse offending bills passed during that time was the Democrats so-called Inflation Reduction Act. It cost taxpayers trillions of dollars, including $1.2 trillion just for “green” energy subsidies alone. Regardless of the lies told by the Left, it did nothing to reduce inflation.

The biggest reason for inflation, and why 60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck, is because Congress can’t kick its spending addiction.

After Congress passes a CR, it must commit itself to using that time to find where money can be saved so that Americans’ burden under inflation can be eased.

1. Tim Walz is a teachers’ union-backed, far-Left activist. He’s an ally of Bernie Sanders and Ilhan Omar—NOT the American people who are struggling because of his extreme progressive policies.
2. Like Kamala Harris, Tim Walz is in favor of banning private health coverage and forcing all Americans into government-run, DMV-style health care.
3. Walz kept MN schools closed for months even though data and other states had proven it was safe to reopen.
4. Walz passively allowed his cities and communities to burn during the BLM riots instead of restoring order and keeping his people safe.
5. Walz turned MN into a “trans refuge” after signing a law banning restrictions on so-called “gender-affirming care”.
