*Protect Yourself Against West Nile Virus [ [link removed] ]*

New Jerseyans are encouraged to protect against West Nile virus (WNV) this mosquito season. West Nile virus can cause mild to severe illness. While most infections are asymptomatic or cause mild symptoms including fever, severe cases can lead to serious health issues. People over 50 and those with weakened immune systems are at higher risk.

Use insect repellent and limit outdoor activity when mosquitoes are active. Eliminate sources of standing water on your property, such as in swimming pool covers or flowerpots. Mosquitoes use these locations to lay their eggs. Left undisturbed, those eggs take a week to hatch into hundreds of (hungry) adult mosquitoes.
