A few weeks ago, we shined a spotlight on our city's culinary scene at the RAMMYS. We know that DC’s restaurants are not just places to eat—they're hubs of creativity and community. They employ more than 60,000 people across all eight wards. With 95% of our restaurants being independently owned and operated, they're a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that makes our city special.
Over the past few years, I've called on all of us to find our role in DC's Comeback, and our restaurant industry has stepped up in a big way. They've created new experiences and opened new spots, making DC a leader in new restaurant openings per capita. They helped draw nearly 26 million visitors to DC last year — a new record — and brought more people back Downtown.
Now, Restaurant Week is right around the corner, running from Monday, August 12 through Sunday, August 18. This is an opportunity to show our gratitude to the restaurant and hospitality industries — explore new dining experiences, support our local restaurants, and enjoy the culinary diversity that DC has to offer.

Let’s continue to celebrate the spirit and resilience of DC’s culinary community. Together, we're showing people why Washington, DC is a great place to live, work, and dine.
The DC Senior Games bring seniors from all eight wards together to promote healthy living through athletic competition.
