If Washington, D.C. was a state, the U.S. Senate sure would look different and the landscape for critical legislation would definitely be altered. While it doesn't have the square mileage of other states, D.C. would actually be ahead of Wyoming and Vermont in terms of population ( according to the 2020 census ).
