What's happening is a power grab to destroy the public Postal Service. Shame on them.
The president's comments follow a Washington Post exposé that showed how he and Treasury Secretary Mnuchin are working to leverage the crisis to undermine our jobs, pay and benefits.
The Post’s reporting confirms what our union has long known: This Administration is committed to fulfilling the decades-long pursuit by some to sacrifice our public Postal Service at the altar of private profit. The report included the following paragraphs:
"If [Treasury Secretary] Mnuchin were to gain greater control through the new loan, a slew of Postal Service management decisions, including the terms of major contracts and collective bargaining strategy, could require Treasury’s approval."
"Treasury officials have said they may press the agency to demand tougher concessions from its powerful postal unions — among the public-sector unions that still retain significant leverage in negotiations with the government"
That's why it is more important than ever that you send a message direct to Congress now.
At a time when the country needs us more than ever, Mnuchin and his Wall Street cronies are attempting to exploit the crisis to raise prices, demonize heroic postal workers and cut service, all so private delivery companies can profit. It’s a power grab.
I know you won't take this lying down.
We are going to have to fight back harder than we ever have before. Postal workers, our families, and the communities who rely on us must stand together demanding Congress pass real postal relief now.
