Dear John,
It was a busy week in beautiful CA-45 with numerous visits throughout our district to celebrate coming infrastructure improvements I secured funding for in Congress. I also had the opportunity to meet folks at the Korean Health Fair, which had information for Korean-Americans on health care access, and met with providers on what they're doing to bridge the gap in health access.
I also had the pleasure of thanking the nonprofits that serve our community in a wide range of sectors with my first annual "Nonprofits of Distinction Award". These organizations do incredible work in uplifting our community.
Get the details about all of this and more below, and make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and X to get these updates in real-time.

Honoring Our Nonprofits of Distinction
Nonprofits represent the very best of our community. These organizations are started and maintained by individuals who simply want to make a difference for themselves and their neighbors. Nonprofits uplift us in areas of education, housing, healthcare, and so much more. On Wednesday, I was thrilled to celebrate 18 nonprofits that do invaluable work to make Southern California better with the first annual Nonprofits of Distinction Award. The incredible contributions from these organizations range from maintaining our community's history, to providing transitional housing to underprivileged families, to mentoring young people in little league, and so much more. I'm thrilled to offer these organizations the recognition they deserve. You can read my statement to these nonprofits here. Keep up the amazing work!

Supporting Transportation Infrastructure
I was thrilled to travel all over the district this week to celebrate infrastructure improvements with local officials and other constituents. These coming projects were made possible by funding I helped secure in Washington, in partnership with our local officials who brought these needs to my attention. One stop I made was in the City of Los Alamitos, where we celebrated federal funding to bolster the Bloomfield Street Project. Safe roads are essential in connecting us with our neighbors, local business, and parks. The developments will make roads in communities like Los Alamitos safer and more accessible while boosting economic opportunities. In Congress, I'm working to secure funding for projects like this that make a real difference in our communities.

Visiting the Korean Health Fair
On Saturday, I had the opportunity to meet patients and healthcare providers at the Korean Health Fair in Buena Park. For immigrants with a language barrier, these health care services can be difficult to find and as a result, many individuals do not have adequate care. The fair offers many vital resources to the Korean- America community and helps fill in these gaps.

Constituent Highlight
As your U.S. Representative, I’m committed to helping you navigate various issues with federal agencies. My office can help expediate a passport, navigate the VA, obtain a federal tax return, and more. I recently heard from one constituent, James from Fullerton, about an issue my office was able to successfully resolve with the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Deterring Chinese Coast Guard Aggression
In light of China's increasing aggressions at sea, I joined my colleague Rep. Steven Horsford (D-NV) in introducing a resolution to condemn military provocations conducted by the Chinese Coast Guard. Communist China cannot be allowed to bully its neighbors using dangerous maneuvers and unprovoked attacks at sea. Incidents such as the detention of a Taiwanese fishing vessel, attacks on the Filipino Coast Guard, and harassment of Malaysian oil and gas project are all examples of China impeding on other nations' sovereignty and right to participate in the global economy. The United States must condemn this threat to peace in the Indo-Pacific. You can read my resolution here and my full statement here.

What I'm Reading |
Chinese Migrants Rush to Find Way to U.S. Border Before Doors Close
"Some are now attempting to start their overland journeys from as far away as La Paz, Bolivia, roughly 7,000 miles and nine border crossings from Tijuana, the final stop in Mexico for many trying to make it into the U.S. The government of Ecuador suspended visa-free arrivals for Chinese nationals on July 1, closing the most popular access point for Chinese migrants hoping to reach the border. The move was welcomed by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, which two days later deported 116 Chinese migrants on a charter flight from Texas to the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang."

Recession Risks Rise as Consumers Turn Cautious
"The economy’s resurgence from the pandemic shock has had a singular driving force: the consumer. Flush with savings and buoyed by a sizzling labor market, Americans have spent exuberantly, on goods such as furniture and electronics and then on services including air travel and restaurant meals. How long this spending will hold up has become a crucial question. Despite contortions in world markets, many economists are cautioning that there is no reason to panic — at least not yet. In July, there was a notable slowdown in hiring and a jump in the unemployment rate to its highest level since October 2021, but consumer spending has remained relatively robust."
