Construction for the Central Intake and Assessment Center (CIAC) officially began on July 19th with several Commissioners attending the groundbreaking ceremony of this $228 million facility. Made possible without tax increases thanks to the Board’s fiscally conservative budget oversight, this project will serve as a national model that aims to reduce recidivism and assist those with mental health and substance abuse challenges.
Board Chair Don Brown credited the collaborative effort between the Board of Commissioners, County Executive Mark Hackel and County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham that made this project possible. The CIAC will replace the County’s outdated jail structure and will serve as a national model for public safety.
On Saturday, June 22nd, Macomb County citizens came out in droves for the 9th annual Yoga at the Hill event. Sponsored by the Macomb County Board of Commissioners and Bodhi Seed Yoga & Wellness, this event celebrates positivity and movement for people of all ages and experiences to enjoy at Freedom Hill County Park–one of Macomb County’s many green spaces. Public participation in the signature event has increased consistently, with this year bringing 20% more practitioners to the pavilion than in 2023.
The Board of Commissioners also received a 2024 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for this event. NACo Achievement Awards recognize innovative and successful government programs that strengthen services for residents at the county level. Thank you to everyone who participated, supported and helped make this event what it is today.

Student Government Day
Student Government Day is a special event that provides our community's youth with the opportunity to experience the purpose and mechanics of county-level government first-hand. Through this hands-on experience, students can become more informed and involved citizens and voters. Participating students write an essay on a different topic each year. The winning essay chosen by the Board is awarded a scholarship.
