Dear John,

We fall in love with this city over and over again for a pretty simple reason.

The people.

Today, I want to share with you three reasons why I love this city. Three community leaders who make New York so very special. Three people who exemplify our values — grinding out there every day, but always showing up for one another.

And I’ll also ask you to take a moment out of your Friday to watch our campaign launch video, and then consider donating to support my campaign for Mayor. [[link removed]]

Without further ado, here are three New Yorkers whose leadership and vision for our communities inspires me every single day:

Donna Katzin is an Upper West Sider and the founding and former Executive Director of Shared Interest.

For 28 years, she led efforts that pushed international investors to disinvest from apartheid in South Africa, and then after Mandela was released and apartheid ended, to invest in building a new democracy there.

Mark Winston Griffith is a New York City journalist, community organizer, and social entrepreneur.

He is the founder of the Brooklyn Movement Center, of food and financial co-ops in Brooklyn, and the co-creator and co-host of the podcast School Colors (my all-time fav podcast). Currently, he serves as the Co-Executive Director of Free Speech TV.

And Carrie Schechter is the founder and owner of JukeBox NYC, the first woman-owned boxing club in Brooklyn, and voted Best Boxing Club in Brooklyn in 2021!

JukeBox is a safe, fun, and electrifying space that brings out the best in you. Carrie is also my boxing coach (and yes, she would destroy me in the ring).

Donna, Mark, and Carrie remind me that New York has a bright future. New Yorkers work so hard – commuting long hours, grinding at work, paying so much rent – because we all believe in New York City and what’s possible here. But that future demands better leadership.

John, I’m running to deliver the kind of strong leadership our city needs. I’m excited and honored to write the next chapter of New York City together, so I’m counting on your support:

Will you pitch in a one-time contribution of $10 today? Donations made by NYC residents could have 8 times the impact through the City’s matching funds program! [[link removed]]
