Hey John -

We here at the Arlington Young Democrats are exploring new ways to engage with our membership and our community by leading the way on how we communicate. We are humbled by the gratitude and the recognition that we have been given for our hard work. And whether you microwave your tuna melts or toast them, we will continue to work hard for you all at home so we can get through this together.

This past week we held one of our weekly virtual movie nights, a virtual happy hour, as well as a town hall with Senator Adam Ebbin on the COVID-19 Situation and Veto Session in Virginia.

Thanks to all of the generous support from our elected officials, our party leadership, local activists, and all of you young democrats and supporters at home we are just $75 away from our final goal for our COVID-19 relief fund. Now, we are looking to go above and beyond. Can you help put us over the top by giving $10 or $25? Every bit helps!

Stay safe and please, despite what the president says, don’t drink bleach.

AYD Community Fund
The Arlington Young Dems have established a community fund which aims to assist local organizations on the front lines of COVID-19. While many of us may be able to work from home, there are a number of community members who do not have such a luxury. We have a goal of raising $1,000 within our community in order to support multiple organizations, from fighting the financial impact of this disease to increasing medical supplies for healthcare workers.

The AYD Community Fund will support:

Arlington Food Assistance Center
Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing
Arlington Thrive Emergency Relief Fund
Arlington Free Clinic
All donations will be divided equally among the four recipients.

AYD COVID-19 Resource Hub
We’ve rolled out a section on the AYD website dedicated to giving the most up to date information on COVID-19 resources for the community. We’re frequently updating guidelines from the Center for Disease Control, pulling in resources from the county government, and adding in new community service opportunities as we continue to build a coalition for good. Here are some of the resources on our site:

PROTECT YOURSELF
CARING FOR OLDER ADULTS
LATEST COVID-19 DATA IN VIRGINIA

Washington-Liberty High School Staff Surprise Seniors
Over the past week, staff at Washington-Liberty High School decided they wanted to treat their seniors to a morning surprise. They went out overnight and secretly placed yard signs!

“‘Congratulations seniors on your upcoming graduation,’ the signs said on the side facing the student’s home. ‘From your W-L family.’

On the street-facing side it said: ‘Washington-Liberty High School Class of 2020. Home of a General!’”

The seniors and their parents thoroughly enjoyed waking up to see these signs. This comes at a time of uncertainty for many seniors across the country who have had postponed graduations and a halted school year.

Thank you to the Washington-Liberty High School staff for making your students feel special!
