Hello John , Samantha Pensari here, Stewardship Utah’s Clean Energy Organizer, and I wanted to talk to you about something cool happening here in Utah – the Community Renewable Energy Program. This program, governed by municipalities, aims to achieve a net 100% renewable electricity supply by 2030!
Utah’s municipalities have historically been subject to a utility monopoly with Rocky Mountain Power, resulting in reluctance from the utility company to invest heavily in renewable energy. The Community Renewable Energy Program (CREP) seeks to offer residents a choice with an opt-in/opt-out program and will remain connected to the Rocky Mountain Power grid. The program is voted on at the municipal level, and customers will opt into the program. However, without municipal participation, there is no choice for customers.
Offering utility customers a choice isn’t a new idea. Utah is one of 18 states that currently does not offer a choice for utilities to customers at all! The Community Renewable Energy Program changes that. |

Currently, 18 communities across Utah are participating in CREP, including Salt Lake City, Moab, and Springdale, to name a few. This month, we’re hoping to bring in two more communities – Sandy and Midvale. If you live in either of these communities, we need your help! Sandy
Sandy City Council is voting on August 13th, at 5 PM, at the Sandy City Hall. Come show your support and provide public comment to your city council. RSVP and let us know we can count on you to support renewable energy options in your community! |
Midvale
Midvale City Council is voting on August 20th, at 7 PM, at the Midvale City Hall. Come show your support and provide public comment to your city council. RSVP and let us know we can count on you to support renewable energy options in your community! |
