VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump loses it as Kamala finally hits him where it hurts most — his crowd size
The MAGA cult leader is clearly reeling from Vice President Harris' startling momentum on the campaign trail, and, as usual, he's rattled most by crowd size comparisons. Nothing screams "small...um...hands energy" quite like a 78-year-old con man lying his face off about how many people gather to hear him spew his nonsense. Case in point, yesterday the convicted felon stood in front of reporters with cameras rolling and bragged that his Jan. 6 insurrection crowd was bigger and better than...Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I have a dream" speech on the same grounds. Seriously. The man needs help.

Trump won't say how he'll vote on Florida abortion amendment
The disgraced ex-president who helped usher in the end of Roe v. Wade, has vowed to ban abortion on numerous occasions, and whose own playbook — Project 2025 — calls for the end of all reproductive choice in America, told reporters he preferred not to reveal how he would vote on a proposed Florida state constitutional amendment to overturn the state’s six-week abortion ban. When asked how he — as a Florida resident — would vote, the 78-year-old sex pest and serial philanderer with no uterus demurred, adding that he thinks abortion has "become much less of an issue." He could not be more wrong. Let's definitely remember in November.

Supreme Court immunity ruling to cause new delay in Trump 2020 election case
The disgraced ex-president's criminal prosecution over his efforts to overturn the 2020 election is expected to be delayed by yet another month after special counsel prosecutors said they had not finished assessing how the Supreme Court’s deeply dangerous immunity decision would narrow their case. Trump oversaw a sprawling effort in plain sight to subvert the results of the 2020 presidential election and was rightly charged with conspiring to obstruct the certification of the election results, conspiring to defraud the government, and conspiring to disenfranchise voters. His enablers on the high court conveniently saw things differently, and ruled that former presidents are entitled to some degree of immunity from criminal prosecution, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. Folks, we're just going to have to beat the MAGA cult leader at the ballot box. Again.
MSNBC’s Lawrence O'Donnell tears into his own network for airing lie-filled Trump press conference without fact-check
MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell tore into the major cable news networks, including his own, on Thursday after they aired the disgraced ex-president's bonkers press conference live and didn't "fact-check every lie" he told. "It was 2016 all over again today. Donald Trump spoke at his home in Florida for over an hour and all of the cable news networks, including this one, carried it live just like they all did repeatedly in 2016. It would be hard to find a sentence in what Donald Trump said today that did not include at least one lie," O'Donnell said. He then complained that "to make a bad news coverage situation worse, none of the networks — none of them — carried Kamala Harris’ speech live after the Trump appearance. None of them." It is as troubling as it is unsurprising. American mainstream media is powered by intoxicating bad incentives: a close horse race drives up ratings. Photo finishes are more exciting than blowouts, and whatever guardrails remain are about as effective as Trump's stupid wall.

USA’s Ariana Ramsey blown away by free healthcare at Olympics
The US rugby sevens player Ariana Ramsey will leave Paris with more than just a bronze medal. After discovering the Olympic Village provides not only free food to athletes but a suite of free healthcare options, she will be heading home having completed a pap smear and a free eye and dental exam. Ramsey even snagged a free pair of prescription glasses. To quote her now-viral TikTok video, “Like, what?” Like, yes! America truly stands alone as the only nation in the Western World that refuses to provide universal healthcare coverage — thanks in large part to Republicans and their multi-billion-dollar healthcare industry benefactors. But how about all those parking lots, eh? USA! USA!

John Bolton says Trump can no longer distinguish between facts and lies: "The truth is whatever he wants it to be"
The MAGA cult leader's former national security, who knows a thing or two about lying himself, criticized his former boss on Thursday as a man who is categorically dishonest to the point he can no longer distinguish between the truth and lies. Correct. Which makes it all the more unconscionable that any purported "serious" Republican would ever agree to work for the fraudster. No cookies for you, John. Your work is done here.

Alabama GOP candidate who attended "segregation academy" pushes for defunding public schools
Alabama Republican congressional candidate Caroleene Dobson, who has been vocal about her support of school choice — i.e. the redistribution of hundreds of millions of tax dollars from public schools to private ones — graduated from a private, so-called “segregation academy” (yep, real thing!) in 2005. The Monroe Academy was founded in the 1960s in response to the landmark Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court ruling that rightly declared public school segregation unconstitutional. Such schools have played a key role in perpetuating segregated school systems across the Deep South. It’s unclear if Monroe Academy has ever admitted a Black student, Alabama Public Radio reported, but we're gonna go with highly doubtful. The local public schools, however, are predominantly Black. Dobson, who has also advocated for defunding the Department of Education, is in a heated race in the newly court-drawn 2nd Congressional District against Democrat Shomari Figures.
Columbia University deans resign after sending disparaging text messages with "antisemitic tropes"
Three deans at Columbia University, who sent text messages that the school president described as "antisemitic," have resigned from their posts. The deans ultimately stepped down after a series of "troubling" texts came to light that were sent in May during a campus event called "Jewish Life on Campus: Past, Present, and Future." "This incident revealed behavior and sentiments that were not only unprofessional, but also, disturbingly touched on ancient antisemitic tropes,” Columbia President Minouche Shafik said in a statement last month when she placed the three on indefinite administrative leave. The messages at the heart of the matter were sent in the weeks after massive pro-Palestinian human rights protests shook the New York City campus, made national news, and inspired dozens of similar demonstrations on campuses across the country.
