Open this today ? and please, read the whole thing. This matters.? ? ? Friend ? this is moving quickly and we need your help. Trump is preparing now to release federal bailout funding to the oil and gas industry. All indications are that he will attempt to build the bailout into the next COVID-19 relief package moving through Congress.
That means we have a chance at stopping him. These relief bills need bipartisan support ? he can't just ram them through ? but the stakes are massive and the posturing and negotiations are moving fast.
We need your help. Intense environmental campaigning already blocked their first attempt to directly bail out the oil industry. We CAN do it again.
No one expected this ? but we're in the middle of the most important environmental battles of the year as the Trump administration uses the cover of the public health crisis to advance their pro-polluter agenda. The environmental movement cannot afford to go dark right now. But the truth is, after weeks of must-win fights, our resources are tight. We're hoping to raise $100,000 to keep our campaigns going.
We're turning to our members for help. If everyone reading this email pitched in ? even just $5 ? we'd blow through our April fundraising goal in minutes. Please, friend ? donate today. We can't do this without you.
Please, donate today and your contribution will be tripled. Even $5 is enough to make a difference ? [link removed]
In the initial coronavirus relief package, we pushed hard to block direct aid from the oil industry ? and environmental leaders in the House successfully stripped oil bailout money from the bill. We won.
Following our victory with the first relief bill, Trump met with oil company executives from Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Occidental Petroleum, and Continental Resources, who pressed him for bailout resources. He's since added these executives to his official task force to reopen the country. Earlier this week, he tweeted the following:

It's all out in the open. There's no attempt to hide it.
We can't let it happen. The oil industry already receives billions in taxpayer subsidies every year and was in the red before the pandemic hit. All of our relief efforts right now should be focused on protecting public health and providing relief for families and small businesses who need it most ? NOT helping industries whose pollution makes death from COVID-19 more likely, and who perpetuate systemic environmental injustice.
Bottom line: As you read this, Trump is moving to divert relief funds to the oil industry ? and it's not the only fight we're up against. Under cover of this pandemic, Trump has already ceased enforcement of virtually all environmental rules at the EPA. We've learned this week that forces within the administration are moving quickly to make those changes permanent.
The good news: We still have a shot at stopping him.
The best thing you can do to help is make an emergency donation. We need to raise $100,000 by the end of the month to keep our efforts going ? and a donor is triple matching every contribution.
Please ? make an emergency donation today. Every contribution ? even $5 ? will be triple matched ? [link removed]
Thank you, thank you, thank you, friend ? for everything you do for the environment.
Sincerely,
