Since President Biden took a backseat in recent weeks, we have watched the media morph VP Kamala Harris — a longtime supporter of Israel — into a harmless national figure, one who might be better on the issue of Palestine than Biden. Our advocacy for Gaza is moving the needle as the largest political structures in the country make shifts to appease the growing movement against the Israeli genocide campaign. This isn’t the time to sit back and say we’ve won. Now is the time to make sh*t happen! VP Harris can still shift her position on Gaza, but will she do it if she’s paid $5,395,227 by the pro-Israel lobby?

Kamala Harris, one of the most powerful officials in the U.S., should represent the American people, not lobby groups who rally support for Israel’s horrific genocidal campaign in Gaza. As long as Harris accepts money from the pro-Israel lobby, however, she will be hard-pressed to stop the gush of U.S. arms — bunker busters, missiles, ammunition, tanks — transferred to Israel. Talk of a ceasefire absent an arms embargo is meaningless.

Pro-Israel groups all over the country are undermining democracy, and any public servant serious about democratic values ought to refuse to be associated with them. Our co-founder Medea Benjamin reflected on the pro-Israel candidate who received $8.6 million from AIPAC that unseated Cori Bush earlier this week <[link removed]>: “It showed that pro-Israel groups can buy elections and it sent a frightening message to all elected officials that if they criticize Israel, even during a genocide, they may well pay with their careers.” We must reject this undermining of democracy and make taking money from AIPAC unacceptable.
