Dear John,
This month marks 32 years of freeing the innocent, preventing wrongful convictions, and creating fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone.
Since 1992, we have helped to free or exonerate hundreds of wrongfully convicted people — including Rosa Jimenez, Renay Lynch, and Marvin Grimm, Jr. — pass transformative state laws and federal reforms, and advance the innocence movement.
In the last year, we were able to exonerate nine people and, in partnership with our Innocence Network colleagues, pass seven policies across the country to help transform our criminal legal system.

But our work requires a lot of resources, John: Our team is reviewing each of the thousands of letters sent in from people fighting to prove their innocence, financing the DNA testing of evidence, and calling in special witness experts to establish accurate facts and back up our client’s innocence.

From losing decades of their lives to receiving no compensation for their wrongful convictions, the people we help to free and exonerate have faced life-altering experiences with lifelong consequences. And still, they have the strength and perseverance to not only fight their wrongful convictions, but also partner with us to transform the legal system.
That’s why monthly giving is so important — and why we’ve set a goal to have 250 new monthly donors before midnight tonight.
John: Monthly giving helps us have the resources we need to fiercely advocate for access to the courts for innocent people, fair compensation for exonerated people, reliable and accurate science in courtrooms, and an end to racial bias in the administration of criminal justice.
So please, will you join us in celebrating our 32 Year Anniversary by becoming a monthly donor? Make a recurring gift now of $15 or more and receive a limited edition Innocence Project 32nd-anniversary hoodie.

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Founded in 1992 by Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, the organization is now an independent nonprofit. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism.
