John -
It’s no secret that property crime is at an unacceptable level in San Francisco. I know this myself all too well, as my own home was broken into, just like many San Franciscans.
Our city cannot afford to keep failing to take meaningful action to address this public safety crisis. That’s why I’ve rolled out my comprehensive, commonsense plan to improve public safety in every neighborhood in San Francisco.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to read it here.
Highlights of my plan include:
-
Ensuring we fully fund public safety and a fully staffed police department.
-
Creating a First Responder Loan Forgiveness program and fully funding and expanding recruitment and retention programs.
-
Making it easier to keep police officers on the job while recruiting the next generation with a short-term five-year Voluntary Deferred Recruitment Option Program (DROP).
-
Creating a proactive community safety liaison position for each of our ten police stations.
-
Working in close partnership with the DA and community partners to end street level drug dealing and drug use.
-
Ensuring we fix 9-1-1 and hire essential public safety positions more quickly, like emergency dispatchers, by cutting red tape.

As supervisor, I’ve consistently fought for proactive community policing. I secured funding to hire 300 new officers, passed legislation to bring more police foot patrols to our neighborhoods, and authored a charter amendment that will be on November’s ballot to increase recruitment and retention of 9-1-1 dispatchers and nurses.
As mayor, I won’t rest until we improve public safety in every neighborhood in San Francisco. If you’re ready to join this fight, please contribute to our campaign today.
Thanks so much for your support. I truly believe that together we can make San Francisco the safe big city it once was.
