John, I’ll be direct.
My Democratic primary election for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district is just a few days away, and winning re-election requires a lot of resources.
AIPAC alone has committed to spend over $100 million interfering in Democratic primaries like mine this year, and they already unseated my brother and sister in service, Jamaal Bowman and Cori Bush.
The right wing and their super PACs would love nothing more than to defeat our progressive movement. Can I count on your support to stop them, John?
Organizing is part of who I am. When I was 14, I was an interpreter for my grandfather at local DFL caucuses and saw neighbors come together to advocate for change. Before I served in the state legislature, I worked as a nutrition educator at the University of Minnesota and have been a committed organizer in the DFL party for years.
In 2018, we made history together when this people-powered movement elected me the first African refugee to become a member of Congress, the first woman of color to represent Minnesota, and one of the first two Muslim-American women elected to Congress.
Since then, I’ve spent my time in Washington focused on fighting for Minnesota’s progressive values, including delivering over $54 million to my district in the form of community projects, as well as passing funding to feed nearly 30 million children across the country during the pandemic, the largest climate bill in U.S. history, and the most significant gun safety legislation in over thirty years.
Now, my opponent from 2022 is challenging me again, so we need to fight back against even more bigoted attack ads blanketing the airwaves and more lies and disinformation on social media. I narrowly won last time by only 2 percent of the vote, so we know it’s going to be close again.
I am committing to continuing the fight for Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, raising the minimum wage, canceling student debt, and banning assault weapons, as well as establishing a permanent ceasefire and release of all hostages in Gaza.
There’s no doubt that these values have put a target on me from Republicans and their corporate allies. AIPAC and their network of right-wing megadonors have made it their mission to oust Squad members like me from office this year by spending an unprecedented $100 million.
I don’t take a single dime from corporate PACs, so I’m relying on supporters like you chipping in.
Thank you for everything you do to push our collective, progressive movement forward in this critical moment.
In solidarity,
Ilhan Omar
