Dear John,
Donald Trump’s Muslim Ban forced thousands of Iranian Americans to be separated from their families and loved ones for four cruel years, solely on the basis of their heritage.
30,000 Iranians were denied visas solely as a result of the ban, more than any other nationality, while many more put their dreams on hold. Many American citizens were even stopped at the border, deemed security threats because of their heritage and illegally detained by Trump’s paranoid border patrol.
If he goes back to the White House, Donald Trump has promised [[link removed]] to re-impose his Muslim Ban to ban our families from coming to this country.
In addition to being the only Iranian American organization fighting against a disastrous regional war and supporting a ceasefire in Gaza – NIAC is at the forefront of ensuring our community is protected against another Muslim Ban.
Thankfully, we have some good news to share with you.
Today, Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28) and Sen. Chris Coons (DE) introduced H.R. 9244 [[link removed]] , the National Origin-Based Antidiscrimination for Nonimmigrants (NO BAN) Act —legislation that will prevent future travel bans. As NIAC Policy Director Ryan Costello said [[link removed]] in Congresswoman Chu’s press release announcing the bill:
" There are longstanding ties between the people of Iran and the United States that were painfully severed when Trump imposed his ban, impacting countless students who sought to pursue an education in the United States, families intent on reuniting, and others eager to pursue the American dream. The NO BAN Act is vital to ensure proper oversight of the president’s immigration authorities and to enable Congress to step in if Trump or any other president once again seeks to arbitrarily deny visas to anyone on the basis of their national origin or religion. ”But this is only the beginning of this fight. Now we have to get this bill passed. Take action today and join this effort.
