I learned the power of hard work at an early age from my parents. My dad immigrated to this country and went from working in the fields to later serving in the military then to becoming a police officer. My parents worked day and night to show me that with hard work, anything is possible. They bent over backwards for our family, like so many parents do for their kids. But no matter how hard they worked, it wasn’t enough to pay for my education. So I channeled their spirit and worked multiple jobs while in college to earn my degree. Then, when my daughter was born, I knew I had to take that same spirit and work to create change in my community — building a future where she’d have the opportunity to fulfill her dreams. So, I went to work on the frontlines in Oregon to secure more affordable health care, a higher minimum wage, lower prescription drug prices for hardworking families like mine, and historic legislation protecting abortion rights in our state. Now, I’m fighting every day in Congress to protect our democracy, defend our fundamental freedoms, and build an economy that puts working families before wealthy corporations.
