The facts are clear:
The federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 since 2009. But since then,
the cost of living has SURGED, leaving millions of hardworking Americans
struggling to make ends meet.
Essential goods have skyrocketed in the last 16 years:
🛒 Groceries: Prices of everyday groceries have increased by approximately
50%, making it harder for families to afford basic necessities.
🏠 Rent: Housing costs have exploded, with average rents increasing by an
estimated 55%. In 2024, the median rent for an apartment has reached
approximately $1,656, making it nearly impossible for minimum wage earners
to afford safe and decent housing.
⛽ Gasoline: The cost of gasoline has risen substantially, with the average
price per gallon increasing by about 54% over the past 15 years. This
added burden affects not only individuals but also the overall economy, as
transportation costs impact the price of goods and services.
And yet, the minimum wage has not budged. It is unfair, cruel, and simply
bad for the economy.
