Friend,
The Voting Rights Act was passed 56 years ago, and racial discrimination in voting was finally prohibited by federal law. It was one of the most important and effective pieces of legislation in our country’s history. In the last decade, our Supreme Court, with help from billionaire conservative donors, has worked to chip away at its principles, again allowing states to discriminate in their voting practices.
And now, the former president, who is again the Republican nominee, wants to abolish voting altogether.
Last week, at the right-wing student conference Turning Point USA, Donald Trump encouraged the audience to vote for him this year but said that after this election, “You won’t have to do it anymore… it’ll be fixed. It’ll be fine.”
