Hi folks, my name is Gloria Witt, and I’m the Democratic nominee for U.S. Congress in Virginia’s 5th District. 

Our rights and fundamental freedoms are on the ballot in November, and I’m running to energize voters in this community and build bridges to advance legislation for ‘we the people.’

I’m proud to have the endorsement of Senator Tim Kaine, and as one of his longtime supporters, I need to ask for your help today: Will you split a donation of any amount between Senator Kaine’s re-election campaign and my campaign for Congress? 

I know what voters in this district care about because I’m one of them – I’m a country girl born and raised right here in Amherst. I grew up on a small farm that lacked running water, and from an early age, I was involved in all aspects of farm life. Starting when I was 14, I worked in the tobacco fields in the summers and eventually saved up enough money to buy my own car when I was 18. 

My father pushed me to pursue a college degree after high school. He was a union steelworker who never got the chance to finish school, and he knew the difference an education could make in my life. 

While I grew up in this region and know firsthand the struggles we face, my experience has also taught me that good leadership begins with listening. In this campaign, I’m leading with my values – family, faith, education, justice, and community building – and I’m listening to the needs of my community so I can fight for them while in Congress. 

That means upholding our democracy, expanding access to voting, restoring reproductive rights, and ensuring our freedoms are protected against all forms of discrimination. It means creating smart economic growth in our communities, addressing the gun violence epidemic, and creating affordable childcare. 

This is what’s at stake in November. I’m committed to protecting our freedoms, bringing positive change to our community, and to creating more opportunities to thrive and grow.
