Jack, Daily Kos doesn't have a billionaire backer, like some right-wing
outlets, and we don't have big corporate sponsors. We like it that way because
it keeps us accountable to you, our readers. It can be challenging at times,
though. When we're working to recruit 100,000 volunteers to Get Out The Vote,
for example.

Getting Out The Vote has real costs for us, like staff time and tech
expenses. It also represents an opportunity loss because we could be spending
this time doing other things. We're investing in GOTV anyway because this
election is too important to sit on the sidelines.It's time to roll up our
sleeves and get to work.

This campaign comes at a tough time. Ad revenue, long the lifeblood of the
news business, has fallen sharply—not just for Daily Kos, but for news outlets
big and small. Big Tech companies have gobbled up what remains. At the same
time, progressive groups have seen grassroots fundraising slip. For Daily Kos,
which sits at the intersection of news and activism, this is a double whammy.
