MEET THE KEYNOTE: RUBEN GARCIA

John,
This October 26-28, be a part of the largest annual Catholic social justice conference in the U.S., where you will hear from powerful speakers including Ruben Garcia, the director of Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas.

This hospitality house for migrants, immigrants, and refugees is rooted in Catholic social teaching and is under direct threat from the Texas government, whose politically-motivated attempts to shut down their operations threaten the rich history of corporal works of mercy that Annunciation House has provided for 47 years!

ABOUT RUBEN GARCIA

Ruben Garcia is the director of Annunciation House ([link removed]) in El Paso, Texas. In a Gospel spirit of service and solidarity, Annunciation House supports migrants, refugees, and economically vulnerable people in the U.S.-Mexico border region through hospitality, advocacy, and education. Garcia has welcomed and helped migrants and refugees arriving in El Paso for nearly fifty years.

Garcia was born and raised in El Paso, where he attended Catholic schools. In his twenties, he ran youth outreach programs for the diocese, but he felt he had a larger purpose in life. The Annunciation House was created in 1978 after Garcia and a group of friends acquired the second floor of a brick building one mile away from the border after discussing how they wanted to help the undocumented crossing into Texas.
