John,
The annual Corporate Hall of Shame vote is here―hosted by our allies at Corporate Accountability―and we need your voice to decide which corporate villain takes the (dis)honor this year!
Let's look at some of the contenders:
Amazon has perfected the art of profit hoarding while shortchanging workers and taxpayers alike. Over five years, they paid a mere 8.9% effective federal tax rate on a whopping $69.3 billion in U.S. profits.[1] At the same time, their CEO Andy Jassy took home $213 million in 2022, an astounding 6,474 times more than the median Amazon employee.[2]
AT&T promised job creation in exchange for tax cuts but delivered mass layoffs instead. Since 2017, they've slashed over 100,000 jobs while pocketing billions in profits. Adding insult to injury, they’ve spent $143 million on federal lobbying over the last decade.[3] It seems AT&T's commitment to growth only extends to its profit margins.
Boeing takes corporate welfare to new heights. Not only did they pay zero federal taxes from 2018-2022, but they actually received a $2.6 billion refund! All while showering executives with $300 million in compensation and spending $11.7 billion on stock buybacks.[4] The kicker? A third of their revenue comes from taxpayer-funded Pentagon contracts.
The ballot is set, and your voice matters. It's time to shine a spotlight on corporate greed and make these giants squirm. Will it be Amazon's tax-dodging antics, AT&T's job-slashing saga, or Boeing's taxpayer-funded bonanza that earns your vote? Or perhaps another corporate behemoth has caught your eye?
Cast your ballot now to select your winner in this year’s Corporate Hall of Shame and help us crown the ultimate corporate villain of 2024. Your vote does more than just name and shame―it fuels our fight for corporate accountability and a fairer economy for all.
By participating, you're sending a powerful message: We're watching, we're angry, and we demand change.
Together, we can build an economy that works for all of us.
