This is not good enough. We must do more to help our communities.

We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.

John,

This week in the House of Representatives, I voted with great hesitancy for the fourth coronavirus relief. This bill provides further funding for hospitals, allocates money for nationwide testing, and provides us with data on race, gender, ethnicity, and other important demographic indicators impacted by the pandemic.

This bill also provides replenishment of the exhausted Paycheck Protection Program for small businesses to enable them to keep their employees on the payroll and survive in these difficult times. But this is not enough.

This bill did not include protections for the most vulnerable, including many immigrants who have been excluded from the prior three bills in Congress. It also fails to provide additional income support for families who are struggling to pay their rent or make their mortgages on time.

It is disheartening that struggling families within our communities still don’t have full government support during these critical times.

This is why I will continue to step up and fight for additional support for our state and local governments -- to avoid more cuts for critical services that people in our communities desperately need. This is just the beginning, but I hope you will stand with me through these unprecedented times.

Together, we will empower our communities across Chicagoland and the nation!

¡Si se Puede!
