Startup idea: Aggregator app for quick commerce/e-commerce So it was summer vacation time for the kids and in typical desi parent style, I started thinking about all the ways to "inspire" them - basically try and keep them away from youtube shorts and prank videos as much as possible. The discussion turned to startup ideas - because why not.. I have this dream that one day my kids and I will run our own successful startup - basically an excuse to spend more time with them! The kids don't have a say in this - for now.. Anyways, a couple of half-decent startup ideas did come through.. 1. An aggregator app for quick commerce/e-commerce.. In India, we have atleast 3 large quick commerce apps (Instamart, Zepto, Blinkit) and dozens of e-commerce apps, with increasingly wide assortments (Grocery purchases are a daily habit, but we've also bought an iron box at 6:30am and socks when I found all my current supply in the laundry - all delivered within minutes). Now, imagine an aggregator app where you can just type in the item and it sources data from multiple quick commerce/e-commerce apps (including Amazon, etc) and neatly tells you availability, price and time to deliver. The advantage for the customer is clear - a true one-stop shop. Real-time data integration (SKU, pricing, delivery, etc) with the apps will be critical (needing their co-operation). The advantage for the apps to join would be exposure to new customers who are otherwise loyal to their competitors.

WorkDitching factory farming can help prevent another pandemic The most ambitious goal of the animal movement has always been to eradicate factory farming and inspire people to eat more plants and fewer animals. This only makes sense, as the scale of the violence endemic to industrial farming radically dwarfs all other forms of animal suffering. Work

WorkWorkWhy boosting your VO2 max could help you live longer - Science (No paywall) When it comes to physical fitness, different activities demand different metrics. Yet, there’s another crucial metric worth considering: VO2 max.
WorkBangladesh has ousted an autocrat. Now for the hard part - The Economist (No paywall) As exits GO, it was dramatic. On August 5th Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister of Bangladesh, fled the country she has ruled with an increasingly harsh grip since 2009. She was driven out by a vast display of people power on the streets of Dhaka, the capital, and will be replaced by a caretaker government, backed by the army and led by Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel peace laureate. Like him, many Bangladeshis are calling it a “second liberation”, half a century after independence. Work

WorkThe EPA Just Banned a Common Pesticide That Can Harm Fetuses - Inc.com (No paywall) Many have called the measure "historic," noting it's the first time in almost 40 years that the agency has used its emergency suspension authority. The pesticide, dimethyl tetrachloroterephthalate (known as DCPA or Dacthal), is believed to cause serious birth defects. WorkWorkHumanity is failing one of its greatest moral tests If you can stand to think about it long enough, the problem becomes paralyzing. Tens of billions of land animals slaughtered every year; hundreds of millions every day; thousands in the time it takes to read this sentence. The number grows by billions more every year, into multiples that feel as abysmal as they are mind-numbing. WorkIVF Changed America. But Its Future Is Under Threat In February, a horrified Elizabeth Carr scrolled through headline after headline about a pause on in vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures in Alabama. The Alabama Supreme Court had ruled that frozen embryos have the legal rights of children, a decision that meant fertility providers could feasibly face prosecution if they destroyed one. Rather than take that risk, some fertility clinics halted IVF services entirely. WorkTrump Says He'll Focus on Issues. His Allies Are Not Holding Their Breath. “The Harris-Walz ticket is the furthest left ticket in American history. They are a target-rich environment,” said Ben Shapiro, the right-wing media warrior. “All he has to do is focus the attack, to dump the war chest he’s accrued on this extremist ticket, to stick to a simple point: You were better off in 2019 than you are in 2024.” WorkWorkFeud Flares Between U.S. and Global Antidoping Agency “In one case, an elite level athlete, who competed at Olympic qualifier and international events in the United States, admitted to taking steroids and EPO yet was permitted to continue competing all the way up to retirement,” WADA said, referring to two categories of banned drugs. “Their case was never published, results never disqualified, prize money never returned and no suspension ever served. Most iPads will last at least a regular work day with frequent usage, which is one of the reasons why many have opted to use their iPads as laptop replacements. But with heavy usage, like constant video streaming or gaming, will come more rapid battery drain. A good rule of thumb is to charge your iPad when you go to sleep each night, that way you’ll have a topped-up device waiting for you in the morning. That means Walz was here not simply to sound folksy, talk about hunting and reach out to rural voters. WorkWorkWorkWorkWhere Are the Trumpiest Ads? All Over Truth Social. In effect, Trump Media’s business is financed by right-wing merchants with relatively small ad budgets, including some that have been kicked off other social media platforms or are trying to jump on the Trump bandwagon. It has created what amounts to a closed-loop ecosystem: a Trump-centric site that depends on many ads by and for Trump loyalists. That contrasts with larger social networks, like Facebook and X, which run ads from Fortune 500 companies like Disney and Walmart, raising questions about how much Trump Media can grow.
