An update following last nights events in Harrow and across the
country ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏ ͏
STATEMENT – THURSDAY 8TH AUGUST
Like everyone waking up in Harrow this morning, I am very relieved
that we did not see any violence or disorder on our streets last
night.
Despite rumours circulating on social media, thankfully, there were no
far right or EDL demonstrations in Harrow.
It is right that the police and others took this situation as
seriously as they did. Public safety will remain the number one
priority.
On behalf of our community, I would like to thank Harrow Police for
the time, care and significant resources they put in place to work
with the community and ensure our streets remained peaceful.
Whilst we thankfully saw no disorder in Harrow, I do not underestimate
the anxiety many people in our community felt yesterday. I am certain
the emotional toll has been significant.
I know that many businesses and organisations closed early or did not
open at all.
Everyone in Harrow should be able to go about their daily lives in
peace, not in fear.
I will be continuing to keep in close touch with the police, the Mayor
of London, Harrow Council, community groups and places of worship.
I also continue to urge anyone who sees any suspicious activity online
or in-person to please report it via:

Across the country, people have come together in support of
Britain’s diverse communities, united against hatred and violence.
This is particularly true in Harrow and why I am very proud to call
Harrow my home.
