Congress still hasn't come CLOSE to addressing the catastrophic crisis facing working families right now.
Working Families Party

John,

Last week, Congress passed the latest in a series of multibillion-dollar COVID-19 relief packages.

They've given tax breaks to billionaires. They've given bailouts to entire industries. But they still haven't come CLOSE to addressing the catastrophic crisis facing working families right now.

Rent is due for millions of us in six days. For millions more, next week will bring more job losses, more of us losing our health care, more of our loved ones facing illness. All of it exacerbated by the historic inequities that have been building for decades — and which the billionaire class has been happy to let grow.

Meanwhile, as state and local budget forecasts are collapsing, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is hoping to let states just go bankrupt — which would mean eviscerating public services, jobs, and pensions just at the moment they're most critical.

We can't let Congress keep ignoring us like this.

That's why we're standing with progressive leaders in Congress — including Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pramila Jayapal, and Mark Pocan — in calling on the House to introduce and pass a comprehensive relief package that puts the PEOPLE first.

Can you sign on right now and help us make sure every member of Congress — Democratic and Republican — hears our demands loud and clear before they meet next week?

The next COVID-19 relief package is being hammered out now and could be released as soon as next week, so we don't have a lot of time.

We are calling on Speaker Pelosi and Congressional leaders to make sure the next House bill includes:

  1. Keeping people on payrolls: Stop mass layoffs, and preserve employment relationships for all businesses, including small businesses. Federal dollars should go to workers and small businesses, not enriching CEOs and Wall Street.
  2. Providing financial relief to Americans: Expand aid for the most vulnerable in the COVID-19 epidemic, including direct cash assistance, increased food aid, debt relief, and eviction protections.
  3. Protecting public health: Guarantee full health coverage for all COVID-19 care and proper protections for all frontline workers.
  4. Defending elections: Enact a vote-by-mail requirement for 2020 federal elections while maintaining access to in-person voting for those who do not have access to mail voting.

A just recovery also means supporting every person in this country, regardless of tax or immigration status, age or disability status. And a just recovery means providing resources to states and cities to avert devastating cuts.

Families are being crushed. We're calling on our leaders to meet this moment. It's what we elect them to do.

Please add your name here to join WFP, Rashida Tlaib, Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pramila Jayapal, and Mark Pocan in calling on Congress to introduce and pass a comprehensive relief package that puts people first.

In solidarity,

Team WFP
