Happy weekend –

My staff and I continue to work every day to serve our constituents during these challenging times. If you have any issue with a federal agency, please do not hesitate to contact my office for assistance. We are honored to serve this district.

I Want to Hear from YOU

Image

Thousands in Arizona’s Fifth District have been impacted by the economic shutdown. If you’ve been negatively impacted by the government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak (whether economically or physically), I want to hear and possibly share your story. Email [email protected] with your stories.

Telephone Town Hall: Coming Up

I’ll be announcing the date and time for a future telephone town hall early next week. Stay tuned.

Economic Impact Payment Questions

Image

So far, over 80 million Americans have received an Economic Impact Payment (EIP) directly into their bank accounts, and millions more citizens will receive these checks in the mail in the coming months. Nearly all tax filers with an adjusted gross income of up to $75,000, and nearly all married joint-filers with an income of up to $150,000, are eligible to receive the following benefits: $1,200 for individuals, $2,400 for married couples, and up to $500 for each qualifying child.  Many individuals and households above the $75,000/$150,000 thresholds will receive a smaller EIP.

For more information about the EIPs, please click this link.

To check on the status of an EIP, please click here.

My office is happy to answer any questions you may have about the EIP, but let me quickly give you some good news about one concern that I have heard more often than any other: the EIP is not considered taxable income and will not affect your future returns.

Paycheck Protection Program Receives New Funding

Image

On April 24, President Trump signed the Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act into law, which provides a new infusion of $310 billion into the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). If you previously applied for a PPP loan, contact your lender for information on the status of your application. Visit the U.S. Small Business Administration and U.S. Department of Treasury websites for additional information and resources, including a list of participating lendersanswers to frequently asked questions, and the latest program guidance.

Constituent Correspondence

This past week, my office sent out over 2,100 letters, acknowledging and addressing constituents’ concerns and requests about the coronavirus outbreak.

65 and Older Emissions Inspection Testing Waiver

From the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality: “During this public health emergency, if you are a resident that is 65 and older who has an emissions test required on your vehicle registration renewal notice, you can delay testing for up to one year by acquiring a waiver from ADEQ’s Director.” This only applies for April and May of 2020. Click this link for more information.

Thank You!

During this coronavirus outbreak, most of us have likely been served by grocery store employees at our local stores. To those restocking the shelves, manning the cash registers, cleaning the carts, or taking care of other duties at our grocery stores, thank you for your service to our communities.

Congratulations!

This week, the Environmental Protection Agency celebrated Earth Day by awarding Nikita Bharati, from Chandler, Arizona, the President’s Environmental Youth Award. According to the EPA, ‘this national award is presented each year to K-12 students who demonstrate the initiative, creativity, and problem-solving skills needed to address environmental problems and find sustainable solutions.’ I congratulate Nikita for earning this award and for her hard work on sustainable food systems.
