Last week, President Biden published an op-ed in the Washington Post
calling for bold reforms to the Supreme Court.
[ [link removed] ]The Washington Post: Opinion: Joe Biden: My plan to reform the Supreme
Court and ensure no president is above the law We can and must prevent the
abuse of presidential power and restore the public's faith in our judicial
system.
John, I’m
doing everything possible to work with the Biden-Harris Administration and
my colleagues in Congress to make these reforms a reality — because it’s
high time to restore the broken trust in the courts.
From term limits to a binding code of ethics for justices, many of the
reforms President Biden called for in his op-ed are the reforms I’ve
demanded for years. Whether we muscle them through in the next five months
or hit the ground running with a Democratic Senate and Madam President
Kamala Harris next January, I’m ready to do whatever it takes.
[ [link removed] ]John, this
is our best chance at meaningfully reforming the Supreme Court and taking
an important step in restoring trust in the courts. If you support these
necessary reforms, add your name alongside mine in supporting these
changes to the Supreme Court >>

I’m a lead sponsor of the Judicial Integrity Act, which would hold federal
judges and justices accountable for violations of their ethical duties.
I also believe in expanding the number of justices on the Supreme Court.
After Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell stacked the court with conservative
justices who took away the right to an abortion and have issued partisan
rulings on guns, the environment, and even Donald Trump’s legal immunity
as president, it’s more important than ever before that we add more
justices and rebalance the courts.
Justice Samuel Alito is flying far-right flags in his front yard and
saying compromise on the bench is near impossible. Justice Clarence Thomas
was late in disclosing millions of dollars in gifts that a billionaire
lavished upon him when he had interests before the Supreme Court, in an
instance of nearly cartoonish levels of conflict of interest. It’s clear
that there is a crisis in the courts that must be addressed.
In Congress, I have already sponsored legislation to expand the Supreme
Court. In the Senate, I’ll be fighting tooth and nail to make sure it gets
passed. And
John, whether it is with
President Biden or President Harris, I’ll work alongside them to get this
legislation across the finish line.
[ [link removed] ]If you agree that we need to fundamentally reform the Supreme Court to
return the bench to the fair, just, and impartial judicial body it is
meant to be, add your name to voice your support for these reforms.

Together, we can rebalance the Supreme Court, insist upon an ethical code
of conduct, and impose reasonable term limits, so that our children and
grandchildren can grow up in a world that has greater rights and freedoms
— not fewer.
