John,
Corruption in politics was on full display last night as Cori Bush came up short in her primary.
AIPAC, a known right-wing lobbying group, poured nearly $3 million into negative campaigns against Cori, and AIPAC’s super PAC spent an additional $7 million.
Was it because she was an ineffective leader? Absolutely not.
Cori Bush is a trailblazing congresswoman who rose from community activism to Capitol Hill.
She played a lead role in extending housing protections during COVID-19, and was a fierce advocate for social justice, including combating antisemitism and advocating for climate action.
Her support for a humane ceasefire to stop the indiscriminate killing of Palestinian civilians made her a target. AIPAC, just as they did with Jamaal Bowman in New York, worked to defeat her through tactics designed to divide our communities, using racist tropes and distorting photos in mailers.
As a fellow 100% pro-ceasefire candidate, we need more community-backed leaders in Congress who aren’t afraid to stand up to right-wing groups like AIPAC in the name of humanity and justice. Contribute now to help fuel our campaign.
This situation forces us to ask: What kind of country do we want to be? One where conservative and MAGA donors dictate Democratic politics, or one where our communities have the power?
While Cori’s departure from Congress is a loss, now is not the time to despair or become complacent.
We know that Jimmy Gomez's biggest donor is AIPAC and that the same attacks will soon be aimed at us for proudly supporting a ceasefire.
Why should our district trust a Democratic member of Congress whose biggest donations come from a group funded by the right wing?
These are the same donors who are propping up the Trump/Vance ticket and the appalling Project 2025.
We don’t need that kind of influence in our district, in Los Angeles, or anywhere in the country.
We deserve representatives who are accountable to us, not to corporate interests and conservative agendas.
We've been building community support, door by door, and event by event.
Despite being outspent last time by Jimmy and his special interest backers, we came within a point of winning.
When the attacks come, we don’t have to match Jimmy dollar for dollar, but we do need the resources to keep up our grassroots strength.
Your contribution today shows your dedication to ending special interest influence in our elections, and supports a campaign focused on community power and progressive values. Join us in this fight to ensure that our voices, not corporate dollars, shape the future of CA-34.
It’s time for us,
David Kim
