The Latest from Farmers
On Friday, I visited with farmers in southeast Indiana to discuss issues facing Hoosier farmers. Between weather and trade issues, 2019 has been an uncertain year for the ag community, so I’ve talked with farmers all over the state to see how Congress can help. Thank you to Obert Legacy Dairy, the family-run farm in Gibson County, for hosting the discussion.

Solutions to Help Hoosiers with Housing Affordability
Searching for solutions to help Hoosiers combat the housing affordability crisis is one of my top priorities. With initiatives like my Fair Shot Agenda and my Yes in My Backyard (YIMBY) Act, I am proud to be pushing policy solutions to tackle the housing issues facing Indiana. The National Review highlighted some of my recent legislation in their article, “The New Conservative Housing Push”.
Last week, I joined two panels with “Evicted” author Mathew Desmond in South Bend and Fort Wayne to address this pervasive issue. In addition, I discussed the benefits of removing regulatory barriers on manufactured housing with Indiana University researchers. I also visited with Evansville Rescue Mission who have been helping address Evansville’s homelessness for over 100 years and walked a Muncie Neighborhood where Urban Light is building affordable housing units to provide quality housing options for the community.

Harmony Way Bridge
The Harmony Way Bridge is an important historical treasure for New Harmony, Indiana, but it has been closed for years. Earlier this month, the Senate approved bipartisan legislation to help return ownership of the bridge to the community and start the process to restore this bridge that connects Indiana to Illinois.
Last week, I was able to stop by the Harmony Way Bridge and talk to local leaders on their plans for the bridge.
Academy Days
Last week, I had my first Academy Day for students in interested in attending one of the US service academies. I appreciate all the students who were able to stop by.
Each year, I host a number of Academy Days across the state to provide high school aged students with more information on applying and attending a service academy. If you or someone you know is interested in attending one of our Nation’s service academies, click here.
