Yesterday, we won the Primary Election. I’m honored to be the Democratic nominee for Michigan’s First Congressional District, and I’m grateful for the movement we are building for our democracy, our families, and our future.

Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Callie Barr, I’m a 5th-generation Michigander and veterans’ advocate running to represent Upper and Northern Michigan in Congress.

The journey that led me to this point wasn’t an easy one. My husband Matt’s service as an enlisted grunt in the Marine Corps meant deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, where he was exposed to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and blast waves that left him with an undiagnosed traumatic brain injury and PTSD. I demanded better services and programs for military families.

But, when government bureaucrats refused to listen to me because I was “just a military spouse,” I knew I had to do more: I got a law degree and helped veterans take on the VA for free.

Now, I’m running for Congress to continue this advocacy and take on the out-of-touch D.C. politicians like Rep. Bergman, who are unwilling to put the needs of the people before their party.

We have a tough road ahead of us, but I know who I’m fighting for. Upper and Northern Michiganders deserve far more than what we’ve gotten with Bergman. I’m counting on your support to power us through the next 3 months until Election Day. Will you chip in $10 or whatever you can right now?
