Hi John, it’s Joe.
Last week, I read an update on the harsh fires throughout California, and it’s just devastating.
My heart goes out to my fellow firefighters, their families, and everyone on the front lines. Please stay safe out there.
Every year, wildfires have become an even bigger issue, affecting not only Californians but the entire country.
We’re getting smarter about fire safety and prevention, but the fire danger is still a huge risk.
According to CalFire, there are over 4,875 wildfires currently burning in California right now.
We have to do more. We must prioritize resources for firefighters, fire prevention, and fire education.
I think back to when I worked alongside the Newsom Administration and the California Professional Firefighters to deploy over 1,000 AI-powered wildfire cameras that detect and monitor fires from their earliest stages.
The cameras provided critical early warnings that saved countless lives, billions of dollars, and millions of acres of California’s wildlands.
When I get to Congress, I will call on the president to declare a national emergency and allocate funds immediately to help save lives in these fires.
