The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed our healthcare system as a deeply unequal structure which favors profits for pharmaceutical companies and the wealthy over individual care. Vast, systemic inequalities that have been growing since our country began are now determining who lives or dies.
The healthcare system in the United States takes thousands of lives every year from those who are uninsured and underinsured. It puts financial strain on millions more who cannot live without treatment but also can't afford increasing prices of premiums, deductibles, and co-payments. As our country responds to a global health crisis, tens of millions of people have already lost their jobs -- and as a result, their healthcare -- and it's time to ensure that every person in America has access to quality healthcare.
