Hello John, At Americans for Prosperity, we’re on a mission to empower patients and the doctors who serve them. That is why we are actively involved in repealing Certificate of Need laws across the country, including in Georgia. Certificate of Need (CON) laws restrict who can and cannot open new medical facilities. In Georgia, anyone wanting to build a healthcare facility or offer a new service must come before a board to prove that there is a “need” for the new facility. You know who has a significant influence on the approval of new healthcare facilities? Often, it's some of the healthcare bureaucrats who manage competing healthcare facilities. It’s like giving Wawa the power to decide if 7-11 can build a new store near an existing Wawa. Allowing bureaucrats to limit healthcare facilities and services in specific areas can have devastating consequences. For many expectant mothers, this has led to horrible experiences in what should be one of the most joyous occasions of their lives. Please take a moment to watch Katie Chubb’s story about how she was unable to open a Birth Center in Augusta, GA due to restrictive CON laws. |
