Dear John,
I’m sure you’ve been following the story in Venezuela.
The country’s dictator, Nicolás Maduro, changed his election results to a 51% win, even though independent polls showed him losing by at least 30%.
Freedom advocates are demanding that the rightful winner should take office.
But Maduro and his thugs are increasingly trying to imprison (or kill) those opposing his reign. Over 2,000 people have been imprisoned. Some of them we know personally and are members of Atlas Network partner organizations.
I’m reaching out today because we just received an urgent proposal from our Venezuelan partners on this matter.
They’re seeking help to address the following problems as they advocate for following the rule of law and building a future of freedom in their country:
1) Maduro’s government controls the local media, preventing independent journalists from communicating to the masses. The only stories in the local media right now are lies from the government.
2) Many young people in Venezuela have mobilized to protest for the end of Maduro’s dictatorship. Our partners want to ensure brave members of this new generation know how to stay safe, amid real risks to freedom’s advocates, and orient them to how a better Venezuela can be rebuilt when freedom arrives.
3) The vast majority of Venezuelans clamor for freedom and an end to 25 years of brutal repression, but many don't know or don't understand the specifics of an authentic free-market alternative to a dictatorship. Our partners have clear plans about how to rebuild a Venezuela that has been devastated by a quarter century of "Bolivarian socialism." With the state of the media, they need more help in spreading awareness of what Venezuelans should be FOR in addition to knowing what they oppose.
Our partners are requesting $50,000 in funding to address these problems and continue the effort to peacefully support the rightfully elected candidate.
Fortunately, thanks to the recent generosity of our supporters, Atlas Network is ready to partially support their proposal.
But we need urgent help if we’re going to fund this proposal in full.
Please consider sending a gift right away to help us directly support our allies challenging the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.
My colleague Kam and I will be in touch soon with updates from our partners on the ground.
Thank you for your urgent help on this matter.
We greatly appreciate whatever you can contribute. We certainly couldn’t do this without you.
