John,
Vice President Harris just announced her running mate is Governor Tim Walz from Minnesota.
Here’s what we have to say about this announcement:
Our message to the Harris-Walz ticket is that their platform must genuinely address the needs of Black communities and earn our support. The key word is —
earn.
Despite many administrations' promises, our communities' basic needs remain unmet. We’ve seen Presidential candidate after Presidential candidate make empty promises on the campaign trail.
We’re not going to allow this to happen again.
Black people face disproportionate challenges in housing, healthcare, education, and economic opportunity. Harris and Walz’s policies must prioritize Black liberation.
Your support is essential in this, John. By donating to BLM, you are funding our work to dismantle systems that harm us, establish systems that allow us to flourish, and hold our political leaders accountable.
Together, we can ensure that the voices of our communities are prioritized and heard loud and clear. If you’re able, please, donate today and help us continue the work that will lead to a brighter, more just future for all.
Our work is vital this election season as we push for policies that will allow our communities to not just survive but thrive.
We know what works to uplift and support our community — because WE keep us safe. It has always been us and only us looking out for our communities and neighbors.
Housing is a critical issue for many Black Americans. We make up 40% of the homeless population in the United States despite being only 13% of the overall population.
To address this alarming statistic and the criminalization of our unhoused community, BLM donated $1 million to Elaine Brown’s housing project, “The Black Panther.”
This project provides affordable housing for low-income families in West Oakland, including services for formerly incarcerated individuals and the unhoused.
The success of this effort will serve as a model for future initiatives that we hope the next administration plans to tackle.
To earn our vote, it’s important that we feel like we can work hand-in-hand with our leaders to achieve Black liberation.
Let’s continue in the fight for the Black community. That is always our goal and we won’t lose sight of it in the political chaos.
In solidarity,
— Black Lives Matter
