Dear John,

Yuck! Have you heard the disgusting news about the UK and Ireland’s largest freshwater lake? That it's being choked by toxic algae caused by farm run-off and HUMAN faeces?

This revolting – and dangerous – mix has created a crisis for the rich wildlife of Lough Neagh. As well as the thousands of people who rely on it for their drinking water.

We’re demanding immediate action to save Lough Neagh from pollution’s toxic grip. Please sign the petition today before it’s too late for this most special of places.

I'LL SIGN THE PETITION ( [link removed] )

Lough Neagh is supposed to be protected by law. But it’s dying. Fish populations and wintering bird numbers have been decimated.

Here in Northern Ireland we’ve been campaigning alongside local communities to demand an end to this destruction.

We marched through Belfast to demand urgent action. We declared a crime scene outside the government department responsible for regulating pollution. We even held a wake for the dying lough.

Now we need you to add your voice to make our campaign to save the lough even stronger. Demand urgent action from the Northern Ireland government. Please will you sign the petition to save Lough Neagh today?

YES, I'LL SIGN THE PETITION ( [link removed] )

Together with your support we can save Lough Neagh. One of the most precious wildlife spots on these islands.

Before I sign off I also want to say, on behalf of everyone here at Friends of the Earth, how disgusted we are by the ongoing far-right riots and racism being seen in our communities, and appalled that the heart breaking attack on children in Southport is being used as an excuse for this violence. We exist to create a greener, healthier and fairer world for everyone. Islamophobia, racism and violence have no place in our society or in our diverse movement. If you’re being directly affected we sincerely hope you’re getting the care and support you need.

Best wishes,

James Orr
Director, Friends of the Earth Northern Ireland
