Texas Music Incubator Rebate Program Application Window

for Fiscal Year 2024 Opens September 1, 2024

The Texas Music Incubator Rebate (TMIR) Program [ [link removed] ] is the tax rebate program for independent Texas music venues and festivals and is administered by the Texas Music Office (TMO). The TMIR Program was established by Senate Bill 609 and signed into law by Governor Abbott following the 87th Legislative Session. With $20.2 million in funding approved for the biennium in the 88th Legislative Session, the TMIR Program will provide qualifying music venues and festival promoters in Texas a full or partial rebate of the mixed beverage gross receipts taxes or sales taxes attributable to the sale of beer and wine in the prior fiscal year to help support the live music industry in communities across the state. Applications for Fiscal Year 2024 open on *September 1, 2024 at 9AM CT*.

Texas Music Office's Music Education & Community Grant Program Application Deadline August 31, 2024 [ [link removed] ]

The Texas Music Office (TMO) administers the Music Education & Community Program grant, sometimes referred to as the “License Plate Grant”, which provides grants to benefit music-related educational and community programs sponsored by 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Texas.

Funding for these grants comes from the sale of Texas Music specialty license plates, where $22 from the $30 fee for each custom plate goes directly to the TMO’s Music Education & Community Program grant.

*The TMO is accepting applications for grant projects in the 2024 Fiscal Year through August 31, 2024 at 5:00PM CST.*

*Only 501(c)(3) nonprofits based in Texas may apply. The eligibility criteria for the nonprofit, includes, but is not limited to, the following:*

• Be a nonprofit organized and based in Texas;

• Be in good standing with the State of Texas; and

• Owe no delinquent taxes to a taxing unit of Texas.

BMI Austin Office Celebrates In Five-Year Anniversary With Governor Greg Abbott

On July 24, 2024, Governor Greg Abbott [ [link removed] ] was presented with a celebratory guitar from Broadcast Music Inc.'s (BMI) [ [link removed] ] Texas' Executive Director of Creative, Mitch Ballard, and Creative Coordinator Kristen Townsend, to commemorate BMI's fifth year anniversary of their first expansion office in Texas. Executive Director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism [ [link removed] ] Adriana Cruz was also present to celebrate the occasion.

Gini Mascorro Presents State Proclamation to Cindy Walker Foundation during Cindy Walker Days

On July 20, TMO's Community and Outreach Specialist Gini Mascorro read a proclamation from Governor Greg Abbott in honor of the second annual Cindy Walker Days celebration in Mexia. The event raised over $15,000 to help restore the 1997 Country Music Hall of Fame inductee’s home, where she wrote the classics that would become staples in the American musical canon, including “You Don’t Know Me,” which scored hits for Ray Charles and Elvis Presley.

Steve Ray Presents State Proclamation during 20th Anniversary of Tejano Takeover

TMO's Program Specialist Steve Ray attended the 20th Anniversary of the Tejano Takeover in Las Vegas, NV, and presented a proclamation from the state to David Chavez and Sarah Ruiz Chavez recognizing their efforts to celebrate and advance Tex-Mex and Conjunto music through the promotion of its cultural music legacy and cultivation of the next generation of artists and fans.
