This summer has been an exciting time for Poynter, journalists and fact-checkers worldwide.
From June 26-28,Poynter’s GlobalFact 11, the largest fact-checking summit, took place in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, attracting over 500 attendees from 80+ countries for expert-led discussions, training and networking.
Also in June, we hosted the Poynter Summit on AI, Ethics & Journalism, convening top AI, journalism and ethics experts to lead conversations on key issues facing the industry and how to approach AI responsibly and transparently.
Looking ahead, we have several exciting events, including our 9th annual Bowtie Ball and a community conversation with Poynter President Neil Brown: “Inside the Pulitzer Prizes – What is it like to choose journalism’s best?”

Robin Roberts, award-winning journalist and “Good Morning America” co-host, will receive the Poynter Medal for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism at Poynter’s 9th annual Bowtie Ball. The annual fundraising gala will recognize Roberts’ illustrious career and include special guest appearances and inspiring stories.
The event will be held in Downtown Tampa on Saturday, November 16. VIP tickets include exclusive access to a pre-event cocktail reception featuring a special conversation with Roberts. General admission tickets offer full access to the Bowtie Ball, including a three-course gourmet dinner, open bar and entertainment.

Ever wondered what it’s like to win a Pulitzer Prize? Or how the winners are selected? Join us for “Inside the Pulitzer Prizes – What is it like to choose journalism’s best?” at Poynter’s St. Petersburg headquarters on Wednesday, September 25.
Neil Brown, Poynter President and co-chair of the Pulitzer board in 2023 and 2024, will share his experiences and insights into the selection process, the criteria for excellence and the challenges of choosing the best in journalism. Two distinguished Pulitzer-winning guests will also join Brown for a panel discussion, concluding with questions from the audience.

| GlobalFact 11 explores key topics in the age of online disinformation |

GlobalFact 11, presented by the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) at the Poynter Institute in partnership with Zašto ne, was a resounding success, thanks to the support of participants, sponsors and fact-checker individuals and organizations across the globe. Through expert-led discussions, panels and sessions, attendees learned about a wide range of critical topics in the age of online disinformation, including fact-checking in conflict zones and the importance of cautious AI tool usage.
One highlight of the event was a powerful discussion between Nobel Peace Prize winner Maria Ressa and AFP Global News Director Phil Chetwynd on tech companies' roles in combating misinformation. Read the full Q&A here.

| Poynter summit convenes experts on AI, Ethics and Journalism |

Poynter’s Summit on AI, Ethics & Journalism took place from June 11-12 at Poynter’s headquarters in St. Petersburg, Florida. It brought together AI experts, news editors and futurists to discuss responsible AI use in newsrooms.
Participants attended expert-led discussions on AI integration in newsrooms and audience perception of AI and evolving journalism ethics. Additionally, a hackathon, in partnership with Hacks/Hackers, led to the development of six AI-based imagined products and applications exploring ethical AI assistance.
In October, Poynter will continue the conversation on AI with our Level Up: AI for Journalists virtual weekly training. Journalists will learn how to build an ethical framework for using AI and experiment with AI tools to improve their own workflow.
