Update: Emergency response in Gaza
Dear John,
I want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone who has supported our emergency response in Gaza and our work for peace. Thank you for donating, writing letters, making calls, and more. Your generosity and advocacy are both deeply appreciated.
I recently heard from our team in Gaza. They are safe, but they and our volunteers have had some close calls and are deeply saddened by the loss of life all around them. “Despite the challenges we face with displacement issues and the suffering of people, we remain committed to serving the community by distributing drinking water, fresh vegetables, and food parcels,” wrote one team member.
Their commitment is extraordinary. Our small team, relying on volunteers, local partners, and donations from the AFSC community, has so far provided aid to more than 935,000 displaced people. That includes food for more than 583,000 people, water for 302,000, and mattresses and blankets for nearly 2,000. They’ve given out more than 28,000 hygiene kits, with special attention to the needs of women and girls, seniors, pregnant women, and babies. They have also facilitated recreational activities for more than 19,000 children.
While our open-air kitchens in Rafah have been closed since the ground invasion began in May, our staff have been delivering fresh vegetables and food parcels to displaced families living in makeshift tents. After a long period of not being able to find meat, they recently managed to cook chicken with rice and distribute 2,000 hot meals—enough for 6,000 people. They have also delivered milk for babies and kids up to 4 years old.
All of this is possible because of kind people like you. Please keep doing what you can. Our Crisis in Gaza [link removed] page has actions you can take and more ways to get involved. And thank you again for all the ways you support our efforts.
In peace,
Kerri Kennedy
