We are deeply saddened to share that despite our best efforts, Congresswoman Cori Bush was not successful in her primary election for Missouri’s 1st Congressional District. Even though powerful right-wing lobbies like AIPAC and United Democracy Project (UDP) outspent 5-1, we are certain that Cori’s fight for justice, human rights, and dignity does not end here. Her time in Congress brought about necessary change that her constituents and all Americans will benefit from for years to come.
A Tireless Advocate for Justice
Cori Bush has been a beacon of hope and a relentless fighter for the marginalized. Her work as a nurse, pastor, and activist has driven her commitment to systemic change. As the original author of the Ceasefire resolution, Cori stood strong against those who sought to silence her voice. She was unrelenting in speaking out in the face of right-wing interests, despite the political cost.
Our Commitment: The Defend and Advance Campaign
Through our Defend and Advance Campaign, we’ve supported progressive champions like Cori Bush, Summer Lee, and Jamaal Bowman. While we succeeded with Summer Lee, we faced losses with Cori and Jamaal. Cori Bush and Jamaal Bowman are such a threat to right-wing power and to AIPAC’s influence in Congress that they had to spend $25 million to try to defeat them. These outcomes highlight the need for continued support for those who stand up for justice and equality.
The Fight Continues
Cori Bush's commitment to justice, human rights, and dignity remains resolute. Now, more than ever, we must ensure her voice and those of all who champion justice are heard. This is a call to action to double down on our efforts. This race was wholly about diverse, working-class, progressive power against Republican mega-donors and the right-wing interests that are threatened by having them in DC.
