It's not every day that you get the chance to tell your U.S. Senators to pass the doobie, but here it is!

 

Legislation was recently introduced – S. 4711, the Dismantling Outdated Obstacles and Barriers to Individual Employment (DOOBIE) Act – to limit the ability of federal agencies to consider past cannabis use when making security clearance or federal employment suitability decisions.

 

Passage of the DOOBIE Act would greatly diminish the discrimination that people who have used cannabis face when trying to get federal jobs and security clearances. It would also improve both the operation of federal agencies and national security by significantly expanding the talent pool that is eligible for these roles.

Similar legislation was approved in a bipartisan vote of the House Oversight Committee last year.

 

More and more states are taking steps to protect the employment rights of cannabis consumers and improve the opportunities available to them. The federal government - as one of the nation’s largest employers - should do the same. Please use this pre-written letter to urge your Senators to support the DOOBIE Act.
