I'm Iowa State Senator Zach Wahls. You might remember me from my 2011 speech to the Iowa legislature about growing up with lesbian parents. Today, I'm IN that Legislature as a state senator.
My phone has been blowing up the last 24 hours: "Are you related to Tim Walz, Kamala Harris's new VP pick?"
Spoiler: I'm not. But we do share something important: a love for the Midwest and a commitment to Democrats winning by appealing to voters about values that make our communities strong.
Governor Walz is the real deal. Whether it’s standing up for family farms, fighting corporations that price gouge families on groceries and prescription costs, or making sure our kids have good schools and free lunches to eat, he's a down-to-earth leader.
He's the guy you’d want to have a brat with at the state fair, but also the one you want standing up for you in the halls of power.
And let’s talk about why Tim Walz is the perfect pick for young people. He’s got a knack for cutting through the noise and focusing on what really matters -- creating good jobs, tackling student debt, holding corporations accountable, passing gun reform, and making sure our planet is healthy for the next generation.
In short, he’s got that no-nonsense, get-it-done attitude that we Midwesterners are known for.
