The coronavirus pandemic makes clear that we're all in this together, and we need to emerge from this stronger and more united as a community. But our community is only as strong as our values.

Unfortunately, Oregon has too many people without a home, and too many of them are children. No person - and certainly no child - should be homeless. In the Portland metro region alone, there were more than 21,000 K-12 children experiencing homelessness during the 2018-2019 school year; that number grows larger every year. Now more than ever, we must stand together to find a solution.

People are homeless for many reasons; some lost a job, or a spouse and wages have not kept pace with housing costs. Others are dealing with addiction and can't access treatment; some need behavioral health care. And there's just not enough affordable housing. We are all better as a community when people get the help they need to get into a stable home.

To address this critical issue, I've joined more than 400 nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community leaders and enthusiastically endorsed Measure 26-210. Now we are asking you to join us.

The HereTogether homeless services measure will enable case managers to help each person get the individual treatment and other supportive services they need to fit their specific situation. That is how we rebuild a strong community - together.

Measure 26-210 is a 1% marginal tax on income, but it exempts small businesses and all households earning under $200,000 a year in combined income.

Also when you sign the pledge to vote yes on Measure 26-210, the campaign will remove your household from their paid persuasion efforts and instead to focus their limited resources on reaching those who have yet to hear our message.
