Today, Vice President Kamala Harris announced that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz will be her running mate.
Vice President Kamala Harris was one of the original sponsors of my expanded Child Tax Credit bill. We worked together to include it in the American Rescue Plan in 2021, and it cut child poverty nearly in half.
As Governor of Minnesota, Walz expanded Minnesota's Child Tax Credit, supporting 215,000 Minnesota families and 440,000 Minnesota children. He estimates that it could reduce child poverty in Minnesota by 33%.
Before he was in public office, Walz was a high school social studies teacher and football coach. He understands that every child, no matter their zip code, deserves a fair shot and that we have a duty to leave more — not less — to the next generation.
Vice President Kamala Harris has made a great choice in Governor Tim Walz.
Together, we can end childhood poverty in this country — and we can build an economy that when it grows, grows for everyone, not just the people at the top.
