John,
First, I have to say that I am thrilled by Kamala Harris’s choice to tap Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as her running mate.
Minnesota is ranked among the top three happiest states in the country, and much of that is thanks to Walz passing progressive policies like paid family leave and free school lunch.
Tim Walz is a reminder of what the Democrats have accomplished in decades past, when we ignore the pushback and scrutiny of our opponents and focus solely on helping the American people.
It is my hope that a Harris-Walz administration will fight to finish what President Biden started, including reforming the Supreme Court.
Last week, Biden proposed three reforms to restore trust and accountability to the Supreme Court and protect our democracy.
The first reform: the No One Is Above the Law Amendment, a constitutional amendment to guarantee that NO FORMER PRESIDENT is immune from prosecution for crimes committed while in office.
The second is term limits for Supreme Court justices, to prevent any president from radically altering the makeup of our highest court. No other branch of government provides lifetime appointments to our leaders, and the judicial branch shouldn’t either.
Finally, President Biden proposed a binding code of conduct for the Supreme Court. The current self-imposed ethics code has proven ineffective, with right-wing justices cozying up to billionaire donors like Harlan Crow and taking luxury trips to Putin’s hometown.
John, these reforms are common sense, and they are long past due – but neither Biden or Harris can get them passed without a Democrat supermajority in Congress.
The election is 90 DAYS from tomorrow, and we are falling behind. I need you with me today to guarantee that we can make it to November and FLIP THIS SEAT! Can you help me?
