DonorsChoose website . Don't wait on this opportunity, as funds are expected to go quickly.
Today, I visited Dupont Elementary to launch the 2024 DonorsChoose campaign, an exciting opportunity to support Colorado’s hardworking and dedicated educators who are helping to shape the next generation of Coloradans.
Last year, 7,368 teachers and 1,385 schools received funding for new supplies thanks to our partnership with DonorsChoose, and we are excited to continue this high-impact work again this year. Any PreK-12th grade Colorado public school teacher can submit project requests to the DonorsChoose site, and eligible projects receive $600 while the funds last. Eligible uses of project funding include upgrading or purchasing:
-
Classroom supplies
-
Technology learning tools
-
Instructional materials
-
Social or mental health resources for students Teachers who previously received funding from DonorsChoose are able to submit a new project request and access additional funding. In 2023, close to 60% of participating teachers had their first-ever project funded by this partnership. Teachers can submit their project requests beginning today, August 6, 2024 until funds are fully allocated.
Mr. Bluhm, a teacher in Arvada, utilized funding to bring electricity to life for students at Arvada West High School. The new Van De Graff Generator is providing hands-on experiences for students in science.
Mrs. Lavine, a teacher in Fort Collins, utilized funding to purchase new literacy resources to support student reading and comprehension, which included mini games and personalized tasks for each student.
Taking Executive Action to Provide State Resources for Wildfires
We are taking an all hands on deck approach to fight the fires burning around the state and keep Colorado communities safe. We are dedicating state aviation and ground resources to support the firefighting effort. Last week, I authorized the use of the Colorado National Guard to support local law enforcement with traffic stops and security needs to free up local resources to support the firefighting effort, and issued verbal declarations of disaster emergency for the Currant Creek, Alexander Mountain, Stone Mountain, and Quarry Fires.
On July 31, I met with public safety leaders at Loveland Fire Station 7 to discuss the wildfire response efforts taking place across the Front Range and Western Slope, including in Larimer, Jefferson, Delta, and Boulder Counties, to protect Coloradans, communities, and lands. I also visited a Red Cross evacuation shelter at Foundation Church in Loveland and the Stone Mountain Command Center in Lyons.
I want to thank all of our state’s first responders and public safety leaders for their tireless work to keep Coloradans safe. Through a comprehensive, government-wide approach, the State of Colorado is supporting the response, management, containment, and recovery of fires across the Front Range and Western Slope.
